Hi, I'm Mika
I'm a creative with a passion for filmmaking and design. I have an affinity for mixed media, bringing traditional art to a digital canvas. With the globe connected and interfacing through the intangible internet, bringing real-world elements to a digital landscape reveals the heart of my work.
I grew up in the Copper River Basin, Alaska. Life on the homestead was hard, juggling subsistence farming and fishing, school, and work. I knew since I was young that I wanted to be an artist, and I practiced every free moment I could spare.
When I arrived as a student at UAF, I was an unstoppable creative engine. I came from cold, rural isolation and found myself in a hotspot of creativity, curiosity, and invention. With support from the amazing faculty, we made incredible films and theatre productions.
My student job at eCampus/CTL became a career in design and communcations. I didn't think I'd ever be so valued and supported. I dove into my many interests and mastered new skills.
Now I live with my partner and our two black cats in Massachusetts. We just bought a home and I'm looking to fill it with new art. Most likely it'll be paintings and sculptures of cats.
